Toronto City Summit Alliance - David Crombie Award

The Toronto City Summit Alliance is the recipient of the David Crombie Award from the Canadian Urban Institute's 2010 Urban Leadership Awards program, which has been paying tribute to individuals, groups and organizations that have made a profound and lasting impact on the quality of life in Canada's cities and urban regions. The Toronto City Summit Alliance (TCSA) is a diverse coalition of civic leaders whose mission is to accelerate social and economic development in the Toronto region. Since its origins following a summit held in 2002, more than 6000 volunteers have been actively involved in its projects and programs. Although many of the TCSA's initiatives are associated with the inspirational leadership of its founder, the late David Pecaut, the continued success and demonstrated impact of the TCSA in the region result from the savvy application of business principles to civic entrepreneurship as well as the commitment of all concerned. The TCSA's model of "collective leadership" has forged working partnerships across the region within a number of inter-related social, economic, environmental and cultural sectors. The Chair of the TCSA is John Tory, who succeeded David Pecaut. The TCSA's day-to-day operations are led by CEO Julia Deans and a small complement of professional and administrative staff.
